"How grasses avoid inbreeding" from 19.00h until 22.30h in the Botanical garden in Zurich
The Molecular Plant Breeding group is contributing to the Nachtaktiv event organized by Creativlabz in the Botanical garden in Zürich. The theme of this event is “Plant dating”. This event aims to bring science and scientists closer to the young public, by organizing night tours of the botanical garden, coupled with exhibits of research projects. During this evening we will be showing some of the different mechanisms that plants have developed to avoid self-pollination, with a focus on self-incompatibility in grasses.

This year, Marius Hodel will receive the ETH Medal for his Master thesis work on “Identification and characterization of long terminal repeat retrotransposons in Lolium multiflorum”. Additionally, Dr. Carlotta Sartori will receive the Hans Vontobel-Award 2020 for her doctoral thesis “Detection and sanitation of Staphylococcus aureus genotype B in Swiss dairy herds”.
