Boosting recombination in apple

Welcome to Selina Ilchmann!

by Esther Ravelhofer-Alge

A warm welcome to Selina Ilchmann, who is joining the Molecular Plant Breeding group as doctoral student.

Selina will work on the “RecBoostA” project, funded by SNSF, under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Patocchi from the Agroscope Breeding Research Group in Wädenswil. In her project, Selina will explore approaches to increase recombination frequency during apple meiosis, thus allowing a rapid reduction of the genetic drag in crosses aiming at combining in novel cultivars high fruit quality and disease resistance. Selina has earned her MSc-degree in plant biotechnology at the Wageningen University and Research, The Netherlands in 2022.
